Basketball at the Rec (September 10 2015)[i]

Face off between a Russian general and me. At the oceanfront, or some transformed version of it. I'm running through parking garages and hotels trying to avoid a confrontation. Across the street inside a business building with glass panes I discover that everyone has turned into zombies – it's understood this is a global epidemic. The zombies are gruesome and not very fast. I jump from the balcony onto a chandelier structure to get away from them. They bark and snarl. I wait for the right moment and dart out through a side door. By flapping my arms I manage to elevate myself above the danger just as one of them reaches for my leg. I link up with James Graves and Sasha Rigney – apparently they both have the same flying abilities as I do. The sense of doom is everywhere as we fly all over the country through the misty night skies. For rest we stop only in places high up off the ground, on tops of buildings, and high up in the trees. We find a safe location in a forest where the trees are made of columns lined with various loaves of bread. A strange looking possum creature with crab-like legs crawls up the branches with hostile intentions. Sasha thinks it's funny as this thing tries to attack me. I'm convinced it has the zombie virus but I guess it doesn't.

...

Later on, we search through an abandoned school building for supplies and food. I know what's about to happen cause I've seen it in a movie or something. We sense uglies waiting for us outside the exit door. I lead the way and we run as fast as we can through the hallway and out the doors. I make it through and leap up into the air. Sasha follows behind but gets stabbed by some 40-year old guy. She doesn't make it out alive. There is nothing I can do about it. The whole thing feels surreal and hopeless. But James and I keep flying on. The man who stabbed Sasha is now flying close behind us with the intentions to kill us. He's swinging knives in our direction. I dodge them right and left. The funny thing is this guy isn't even a zombie. He stops attempting to kill us for a moment.

I ask him, "Why are you killing people? We should be on the same side!"

He describes his nihilistic view on humanity.

I question, "So you're saying because there's a war going on it's an excuse to kill everyone?"

Somehow we manage to lose the guy.

...

Later on, while settling down on a balcony off a skyscraper Sasha appears.

"You're alive!"

She has a circular scar in the center of her chest. The three of us are back together again. We feel a strong sense of friendship and intimacy. We're going to survive this zombie war.
