I get a distressing call from mom informing me that Dotty, the six-toed cat and close companion to my great uncle Kenny, just died. She lived a long time. My mom is crying and needs someone to help bury her in the backyard. I commit to lending a hand.
There, at the Markham house in Portsmouth. I locate a spot about 20 feet from the tree and dig up a hole. The tree roots make it a bit difficult. It's a strange feeling to be placing the cat's body in there but it also feels natural. Death is inevitable. I wasn't as close to Dotty as Kenny was but I know she was the sweetest asset to his life. They needed each other. While I conduct the burial my mom builds a cross out of some sticks. We place a small wreath on it.
Fighting interstate traffic to get home. I finally make it back by 5 o'clock.

Got a DEJA gig at Grumpy's tonight. It's actually much more crowded than we expected. The ELO and Van Halen tunes get the people on the dance floor as usual.

Back home. Cleaning up the dishes that, a combination of my stuff but mostly Kevin's stuff. We already established a rule for dirty dishes: if you go to bed without cleaning your dishes you get charged $2 and whoever charges you will clean the dishes for you. That last part is optional. Looks like I'm gonna be making some extra bucks this month.
Herbal Tea.
Sleep 4 a.m.
